The reproduction of this 1752 Dubuisson mosaic comes from Christie's online auction catalogue (click here to see this item). This binding sold for 10.625 Euros in December of 2015, without an attribution given, here we are going to show not only was this made by Dubuisson but also we are going to show a link from this binding to another important mosaic binding.

Fortunately the Christie's reproduction is good enough to show even the cross in the center of the pd-21 flowers, this is certain unmistakable proof that these imprints derive from the tools of Pierre-Paul Dubuisson

Comparative Disgram 2 - Dubuisson pd-7 imprints 1200dpi.

In Comparative Diagram 2, we can see how lighting is an important factor on very small imprints shuch as pd-7, this is obviously the same imprint , both derive from a single binding however with lighting from the top or bottom , the details can appear to be quite different.

Comparative Disgram 3 - Dubuisson pd-8 imprints 1200dpi.

In Comparative Diagram 3, we are looking at the pd-8 with lighting variations, these imprints pd-21a and b pd-7 and pd-8 are almost always present in Dubuisson's mosaic's and are certain proof of a Dubuisson binding.

Comparative Diagram 5 - Dubuisson imprints pd-22 and pd-22-2

In Comparative Diagram 4, I compare these very rare Dubuisson pd-22-2 imprints. Last year we examined the binding shown below, (click here to see this page) I didn't go too far in detailing this fluron shown in Comparative Diagram 4, simply because I had never seen it in this size before, now at last positive proof that this is a Dubuisson tool. The Gulbenkian Museum binding LA250 is said to have a J A Derome ticket inside, you can see from the last few pages and this page too, that this binding is covered with imprints from Dubuison's tools, especially pd-21, pd-7 and pd-8.

A word of Caution

Even experts are sometimes wrong, before you spend thousands on a book, please do your own research! Just because I say a certain binding can be attributed to le Maitre isn't any kind of guarantee, don't take my word for it, go a step further and get your own proof. In these pages I have provided you with a way of doing just that.
