On the previous page we were trying to make heads or tails of the binding 117 that was said to be in fact Louis-Marie Michon's No. 335 that he claimed was his best example of a binding from his so called "Atelier a la tulipe". we had to dig to find Michon's reference and here it is, thanks to a wonderful friend who has taken the time and trouble to send me photos of all this. |
In Comparative Diagram 1, we see Michon's 335 reference where he indicates Von Wassermann 1144, right away we have a problem because this is indeed binding 117 and it is not entitled Heures présentées à Madame la Dauphine. However we do not need to get bogged down in this error, because obviously this is the binding that Michon wished to show from this atelier. Let us proceed now to look at the imprints |
I am going to present on this page the imprints from a number of bindings that relate to Michon's best example. I know that for some this will be like trying to read Chinese however I want to draw your attention to one pair of imprints that occurs in all examples, shown below in Comparative Diagram 3. |

Even experts are sometimes wrong, before you spend thousands on a book, please do your own research! Just because I say a certain binding can be attributed to le Maitre isn't any kind of guarantee, don't take my word for it, go a step further and get your own proof. In these pages I have provided you with a way of doing just that. |
