The reproduction of the Fétil binding shown above is found in the amazing Gumuchian, catalogue XII, Belles reliures Paris - 1929. They think this binding was by Derome however we now know this is incorrect. They also say that there is only one other copy with this provenance known and it is in the Bibliotheque national de France. We will try to find that later, I want to point out that we see on this binding many of the tools that we examined on the previous page, as well as some new tools. The imprints of these new tools I have gathered together in Comparative Diagram 1. |
While I was looking in Barber's tool catalogue for anything like these new tools, I came across another Fétil tool in the catalogue that is found on the bindings I will present on the next page. I did not find these new tools in Barber's catalogue although that is not surprising as we have seen in the last two examples Fétil can make these dentelles with a minimum of tools. |

Even experts are sometimes wrong, before you spend thousands on a book, please do your own research! Just because I say a certain binding can be attributed to le Maitre isn't any kind of guarantee, don't take my word for it, go a step further and get your own proof. In these pages I have provided you with a way of doing just that. |
