In their 2002 publication entitled: Reliures françaises du XVIIe siècle, chefs-d'oeuvre du Musée Condé Isabelle de Conihout and Pascal Ract-Madoux illustrated with rubbings, 5 Boyet roulettes (A-E), I have detailed some of them on a number of various pages but never have I grouped them all in one place. Here then in Comparative Diagram 1, we have examples of each of these roulette types. Unfortunately due to a printing error their Type B was simply an invertion of Type A. I have replaced this with the correct Type B and a variant (B-2) found in the Bibliotheque nationale de France, BnF RES-G-2292 (click here to see it) The authors gave only one model of Type C however many more variants exist, there are 8 in this diagram. I have not yet found an actual Type D specimen, so we see in this diagram the original rubbing. Below I continue this list with additional Boyet roulette Types. |

Even experts are sometimes wrong, before you spend thousands on a book, please do your own research! Just because I say a certain binding can be attributed to le Maitre isn't any kind of guarantee, don't take my word for it, go a step further and get your own proof. In these pages I have provided you with a way of doing just that. |
